Let's Swim to Fight Cancer! I miss you Gay!
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the Swim Across America community, so together, we can change that.
On November 26, 2021 I lost my coach “Gay Silverman” to cancer and I’ll be swimming in her memory this year as well as honoring my father David Kyff who is currently going through chemotherapy. He has been battling prostate cancer since 2009 with Sloan.
Gay Silverman coached the Silver Streaks swim team and was incredibly generous to allow me to come back and swim with them in my 30’s. Any one that knew Gay knows how incredibly giving she was. The Silver Streaks was a team that was diverse and inclusive and enabled those to participate in a sport when it wasn't always accessible to them. The training that she gave me enabled me to to capture over 20 Top Ten wins in USMS and multiple personal best times. On a personal level she was also like a mother to me and I don’t have the words to express how much I miss her.
In addition to these 2 incredible individuals I’ll also swimming for my friend Eliot who is currently battling cancer as well, my Uncle Bruce, my hairstylist Edie who is a breast cancer survivor, in memory of Kevin Flood my former coach, in memory of Eugene Doherty and Jason Troiano and all of my friends currently or previously effected.
When you look at your own life you will soon see that there are many people effected by this and how desperately we need to raise money for the critical research it takes to come up with new treatments to save and extend lives.
Without Swim Across America early stage funding, they are not able to conduct trials that can lead to breakthroughs that can save lives. Trials such as these have saved my Dad’s life.
Please consider helping this wonderful cause in any way you can this summer. For friends with corporate match your donation can be multiplied if your company has this program. Thank you for helping make an impact in the fight to find a cure!
