Stephen "Scuba" Brown
This year I will be participate in the Swim Across America( SAA) – 2023 LIS - Long Island Sound Open Water Swim. I will be doing the 10 k open water swim across the Long Island Sound. SAA host 21 open water swims in the United States. SAA’s mission is to raise funds for cancer research, clinical trials and patient programs.
I will be doing this in memory of BJ Correll, Michael Schrodel, Randy Ellsworth, Gary Garbers (SEAL), Dywane Osgood(Marine), Jeff Davis (Navy Chief), Eric Lenhert (SEAL) and in honor of, Wally Johnson(SEAL), Rick "Hydro" Hyser (SEAL), Richard Stayska (Green Beret),Tripp Clapper, Raenelle Sederquist, Merritt Plummer, Myra Rowell, Maya DeWalkar, (MayaStrong), Eric Geatz, Catherine Ashbridge, Stephen Ashbridge, Jose Ponce and all those that are fighting the good fight and those who gave it their all.
This past year we lost Eric Lenhert (Navy SEAL) teammate and godfather to my daughter to Glioblastoma.
Glioblastoma is a type of brain cancer, it’s known as “The Terminator”.
It’s the most common type of malignant brain tumor among adults. And it is usually very aggressive, which means it can grow fast and spread quickly. There is NO CURE; there are only treatments to help ease the symptoms.
Brain cancers aren’t common. And when they do happen, about 4 out of 5 aren’t glioblastoma. Men over age 50 of European or Asian heritage are more likely to get them than women. Doctors diagnose about 14,000 glioblastoma cases in the U.S. each year. The survival rates are:
· One year: 40.2%
· Two years: 17.4%
· Five years: 5.6%
Thanks to organizations like Swim Across America and theirs funding we continue to make waves for cancer research, clinical trials and patient programs. Someday THERE will be a cure for cancer.
Help me make a tidal wave to wipeout cancer for good!!
Thank you,
Scuba
