A Swim in Honor of Maranda
This summer, in late July, I will be completing an open water swim in the Long Island Sound with Swim Across America. The organization raises funds for cancer research across the Country. On my swim I will be joined by my closest college friends from The College of the Holy Cross in support of our dear friend, Maranda, who is battling cancer. Although we know we can't fight the cancer for Maranda this is a small act of something we feel we can control. A way to help and support in a manner that feels constructive given the impact of the organization.
Cancer has certainly touched my life in other ways over the years having family members and close friends both succumb to it and survive it. Cancer sucks.
An estimated 40% of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. Meanwhile, National Cancer Institute funding for investigative research and clinical trials has decreased 25% over the past 10 years. This benefit swim is so important because it raises dollars that are invested into early stage cancer research and clinical trials. The researchers we are funding are in our community and are the next generation of cancer pioneers.
Please consider supporting our team (Maranda's Survival Crew) or donating here. Thank you.
