Maura Aparicio Valera and Santiago Aparicio came to the United States from Peru in 1969. Leaving all their possessions, they came to pursue the American dream. They arrived with their three young sons and two other boys who had been students of Maura’s in Peru. They worked hard, every day, holding multiple jobs. Eventually Santiago opened a Stamford, CT based furniture business that would last 30yrs. They loved this country, never more proud than the day they became U.S. citizens. They were tough, loving, inspiring. They made a life of overcoming obstacles and never complained. Sadly, ultimately, they each met an obstacle they could not overcome. For Santiago it was non-hodgkins lymphoma for Maura Valera it was ovarian cancer. As per usual, they battled, asked for no sympathy, but eventually in 2007 Santiago passed away and Maura Valera followed him 11 month later.
Please join us and swim in memory of this couple whose legacy lies in their children and grandchildren who are fortunate to live the dream that Maura and Santiago came to seek.
