Welcome to Natalie's Page
Hard to believe we are at year 11! This year marks the 11th year of SAA Nantucket! A lot has changed since I started participating in our Nantucket event. I am one, from a small group, that has participated in every SAA event. It’s become an event and organization that is very important to my family. Year 11 and I’m back for the 4 mile swim!
Cassie was diagnosed with ocular melanoma in June of 2019. She has gone through a clinical trial for treatment and luckily her tumor has remained stable. She is still seeing her oncologist regularly and must travel to Boston each time.
My dad has continued his treatment. Since 2019, he’s been through a lot; A Moh’s procedure, a cancerous mass on his kidney, and then a stage 4 metastatic renal diagnosis. He’s been able to receive treatment HERE on island because of all the funds brought in by our SAA event. Recently he's had a couple set backs with treatment and his health, but he is still fighting. We knew this wasn't going to be an easy diagnosis, but we are doing the best we can.
Three years ago none of us ever thought we would be dealing with multiple cancer fights in our family. We are fortunate that both Cassie and my dad are both responding well with treatments and their scans remain stable. I take on the 4 mile swim this year in hopes to continue to help ease the burden of treatments and off island travel for our Nantucket families. Please consider donating to my swim and helping me reach my goal.
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, I can change that. I am challenging myself by swimming in the Nantucket Island Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer on Nantucket.
With every dollar raised from our Swim, we are changing the game of cancer care on Nantucket and we should all be proud of that. Proceeds directly support the Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH) and the Palliative and Supportive Care of Nantucket (PASCON) oncology efforts to fund vital services for local and visiting cancer patients, minimizing their need to travel for appointments, testing and treatment. Our support allows NCH oncology programs to keep more Nantucket residents on-island for their cancer care, providing them a compassionate and caring environment. We help bring world-class oncologists to the island, allowing our patients to receive treatments at home. Through PASCON, our patients and families receive important physical, emotional and spiritual care free of charge.
Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer care on Nantucket. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
