Welcome to Natalie's Page
I’m back for the 4 mile swim!
A lot has changed since I started participating in our Nantucket event. I am one, from a small group, that has participated in every SAA event. It’s become an event and organization that is very important to my family.
This year's swim is going to be a little different for me. For years I have been able to say that both Cassie and my dad have been doing well with treatment and their cancer has stayed relatively stable. While Cassie's continued to get good reports, my dad lost his battle with cancer on June 15, 2024.
In February 2024, we learned that my dad had exhausted all treatment options. He had already exceeded everyone's expectations when he was diagnosed in March 2020 with stage 4 metastatic renal cancer. While we had hoped his health would maintain, we started to see a decline. At the end of May 2024, we saw a huge decline in his quality of living. My dad wasn't able to do all the things he wanted and his time with family changed. Shortly after entering hospice care in June, my dad lost his battle with cancer; passing away at home with loved ones.
I know when I swim this year, the strokes will mean a little more to me than they have in the past. This will be the toughest swim yet, but I swim in honor of my dad’s courageous fight.
I take on the 4 mile swim each year to help continue to support our families in need. I help ease the burden of treatments and off island travel for appointments. Please consider donating to my swim and helping me reach my goal.
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, I can change that. I am challenging myself by swimming in the Nantucket Island Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer on Nantucket.
With every dollar raised from our Swim, we are changing the game of cancer care on Nantucket and we should all be proud of that. Proceeds directly support the Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH) and the Palliative and Supportive Care of Nantucket (PASCON) oncology efforts to fund vital services for local and visiting cancer patients, minimizing their need to travel for appointments, testing and treatment. Our support allows NCH oncology programs to keep more Nantucket residents on-island for their cancer care, providing them a compassionate and caring environment. We help bring world-class oncologists to the island, allowing our patients to receive treatments at home. Through PASCON, our patients and families receive important physical, emotional and spiritual care free of charge.
Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer care on Nantucket. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
