2021 Nantucket Open Water Swim

Nantucket Solo Run for Hope

The Nantucket Triathlon Club and Monument Running Group are hosting a virtual “Nantucket Solo Run for Hope” on May 1, 2, and 3 with three different run distances 5k, 10k and Half Marathon, plus a 5k walk. You can run this race from anywhere in the world.  We will have prizes for Age Group winners and additional fun prizes for creativity including “Best Costume”, “Best Video, “Most Elevation Gain”, “Biggest Heart”, “Comeback Kid”, “Most Interesting and Unique Course”. The beneficiary of the Solo Run for Hope is Swim Across America – Nantucket which supports on-island cancer treatment and patient care through the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Oncology Department and PASCON, the Island’s palliative care provider. All of these nurses and technicians are on the front lines every day.

The prizes will include gift certificates to Island eateries that need our support now. The Nantucket Triathlon Club is underwriting the entire cost of this run including t-shirts and gift certificates which support our Island restaurants. Category (male-female - every ten years) and race winners will receive $25 or $50 gift certificate from one of these establishments that have been there for us, Island Kitchen, Lemon Press, Handlebar, and the SeaGrille.

The minimum registration fee is $25.00 which qualifies you for an award and t-shirt. We are suggesting a $50 registration or greater for those who can afford it during these times and larger donations are readily accepted in that this is a challenging year for our charities. Note that all of the fees/donations are tax-deductible.

There are a few rules. First and most important, you must run SOLO or only with someone who is living in the same household. You can enter more than one distance but have to pay additional registration fees to enter that race. You must start your run no sooner than midnight May 1st and send your run information by 10:00 pm on May 3rd.   You will submit your distance and time and either a photograph or actual Garmin/Strava file or some other evidence of your distance and time and your t-shirt size. We will take a self-timed segment in the event that you do not own such a device. Results need to be posted on the Monument Running Group Facebook event page and/or sent to Results will be posted on May 4th.

People are encouraged to submit videos or photographs of their run, or compete in costume or do something else that brings a smile to everyone. Walkers, when you send in your results, please be sure to designate your distance as a WALK to be considered for that division.

Prizes and t-shirts will be distributed some time after the event at a place and time to be determined. We know a lot of you are in the best shape ever due to the stay at home orders. Here is our chance to support our medical heroes and show your stuff. Register Today!!  and share with your friends on Island and off. Let Nantucket and the World know that we are not taking this sitting down!
