Douglas Sayles' fundraising page for Swim Across America Rhode Island
Cancer touches us all, but together we can effect change by supporting the search for a cure.
To that end, I direct the Swim Across America - Rhode Island Open Water Swim, an annual charity event the Saturday after Labor Day at Roger Wheeler State Beach, where 800 swimmers and volunteers unite to celebrate, reflect, and swim in the ocean with one common goal: to fight cancer. This year's swim is Sept. 9, 2023.
Since 2010, we've raised over $2 million for the Program in Women's Oncology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, a world-renowned facility where researchers and clinicians uncover key answers to the questions of cancer.
This year, we need your help reaching our $275,000 fundraising goal.
Prior SAA-RI funding contributed to the discovery of a biomarker for ovarian cancer and development of a test that is now used worldwide to help improve patient outcomes by enabling earlier detection, diagnoses, and treatment.
This funding underscores the importance of philanthropy to potentially lifesaving or life-altering medical research, including promising studies that have not yet received National Institutes of Health or other government grants.
