In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. One way or another, we all eventually feel the effects of this disease ourselves or on those we love.
This SwimRI fundraising team encourages participation in and support of the 2020 Swim Across America - Rhode Island charity event, which is normally a festive open-water swim on the second Saturday of September at scenic Roger Wheeler State Beach. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's event format has been changed to a "Coast-to-Coast" Virtual Challenge.
Our virtual route will start in Nantucket, Mass., on June 22nd and travel through each Swim Across America open water event city (21 "stops") for a 7,686-mile, east-to-west journey. We'll then "flip-turn" in Los Angeles and complete the west-to-east return trip.
Participants can log their swims and/or other favorite activities throughout the summer, and SAA will track Team Rhode Island's mileage. For the sake of friendly competition, SAA will also track the progress of each SAA-RI local team and periodically announce special incentives.
on counts, no matter how big or small, and will fund important cancer research at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. Anyone is welcome to join and/or support our SwimRI fundraising team so that, together, we can positively impact the search to find a cure for this pervasive disease.
Thank you for your generosity. COVID-19 may be dominating the headlines, but cancer has not taken a break, and neither will we!
