On July 7, 2019 my cousin Elizabeth Young (pictured with her mom) was admitted to hospital for abdominal pain. This turned into emergency surgery bc Colon Cancer had grown and twisted around her reproductive organs resulting in full hysterectomy and removal of much of her colon. She was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer which has metastasized to her Liver. Over the past year, she has had an ostomy bag, hernia, and multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Most recently her screens still showed more Liver spots, but fortunately it has not metastasized to her lungs. Needless-to-say, COVID has not been the most exciting time to go through this ordeal. Fortunately, our family will be able to spend next week at the beach together. My cousin has struggled but has received great treatment VCU Health VCU Massey Cancer Center. In addition, a good friend and colleague Grace Tucker has had a similar struggle over the past 2 years. There is nothing more profound to say than #cancersucks or as I have said for a long time "death is stupid". All of my training #swim #bike #run this month will be dedicated to this great cause. Since I train 2/day most days, look for more posts. Please consider making a donation!
