Over the years I have participated in several Susan G. Komen 3-Day walks and AFSP Overnight Suicide Prevention walks to raise awareness and funds for these noteworthy causes, but my knees finally said, “No more!” So, when my friend and colleague participated in the San Francisco Swim Across American fundraiser last year to raise money for innovative cancer research, I decided to take the plunge! While swimming 1.5 miles in the San Francisco Bay is way out of my comfort zone so is the fight against cancer that so many of my family members and friends have done and continue to do. I will think of each of them and their courage with every stroke I take on October 5th.
