Team David
It has been 17 years since the first Team David. The first years, we were swimming with grateful hearts. My son, David, had completed his treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma and was a healthy and happy 7 year old. My sister Kathie, friend Valerie and I joined the relay in SF Bay as rookies. The relay swim began at the Golden Gate Bridge and finished at AT and T Park. It was an exhilirating day! We swam for David, the other kids and families and got to swim with Olympians.
In the years since, our reasons for swimming have changed. David was given another devastating diagnosis in 2010. He had developed secondary cancers. an osteosarcoma and brain tumor which were a result of his radiation treatment as a toddler. Despite an inspiring, brave and determined attitude, he passed away in 2011. We miss him every moment of every day.
Today we swim for the children and their families who face a cancer diagnosis. It is dramatically life changing to a family and something that no family should face. The dollars raised from this swim go to pediatric cancer research at UCSF and local childhood cancer survivors who have completed treatment. The effects of the current treatments are often dramatic. David's effects were more cancers and his life.
Please consider donating to Team David. Want to join our swim? We would LOVE to have you join us! You can help by swimming or volunteering at the event on October 5, 2024.
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. We joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that. We are challenging ourselves by swimming in the San Francisco Bay Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer as we can. Please support us by sponsoring our swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!
