Welcome to the Swim Across America - Seattle Open Water Swim.
Volunteer, swim a 1/2 mile, 1 mile or 2 mile distance in beautiful Lake Washington to raise money that funds clinical trials and cancer research at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Over the last 10 years we've raised nearly $2.5 million, which has been leveraged to obtain matching grants that would otherwise not have been obtained.

The Swim Across America - Seattle Swim in Lake Washington has been a thriving benefit swim since its inception in 2009. This family-friendly event invites participants of all ages the opportunity to volunteer, swim a 1/2 mile, 1 mile or 2 mile distances to raise money for cancer research and treatment at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Join us as we "Make Waves to Fight Cancer" on September 7.

Distance Options:

  • 0.5 Mile
  • 1.0 Mile

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) brings together the leading research teams and cancer specialists of Fred Hutch, Seattle Children's, and UW Medicine. When you seek treatment at SCCA, you access an extraordinary group whose sole mission is the pursuit of better, longer, richer lives for our patients.

For the past eight years, the Seattle chapter of SAA has generously supported research at SCCA, raising nearly $2.0 million to directly benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Specialty Clinic and the Swim Across America Cellular Therapy Lab. Last year, volunteer efforts bridged funding gaps; accelerated research in pancreas cancer—an area of exceptional need; and supported immunotherapy—an area of great promise.

Swim Across America makes swimmer safety the most important component of all our swimming events. Our Safety Director is responsible for coordinating all activities within the event, and will work closely with both local Police and Coast Guard representatives to ensure swimmer safety. We will have the Mercer Island Police Marine Patrol out on the course with us, as well as a number of lifeguards, safety kayakers and safety boats to ensure swimmer safety at all times. All boats will be able to communicate via both hand held and ship to shore radios. All swimmers are required to follow specific procedures to participate in the event. These procedures are designed to protect swimmers from injury and will be enforced by the event’s Safety Director.

All swimmers and volunteers must complete the waiver found here.

If you have questions about our policies regarding inclement weather, swim equipment or wetsuits, please consult our Policies page.

Volunteers are the backbone of the Swim Across America Family. Even if you aren’t a swimmer, you can still help us in the fight against cancer. Whether guiding swimmers safely to shore, captaining a boat or kayaking beside a swimmer in the last stretch of the course, volunteers ensure that our events run smoothly from beginning to end. Don't forget, volunteers can fundraise too if they want!
