Cancer is personal. I lost my Mom to pancreatic cancer in 2007. In Oct 2018, I lost my brother Marty to retinal melanoma that metastasized to his liver. Both choose to fight differently. My Mom opted not to get chemotherapy as outcomes where not that impressive. It still remains a challenging cancer to diagnose and treat to this day. My brother, with the support of his wife and 3 sons, tried several options, including involvement in a Phase I trial at the University of Colorado. Ultimately, cancer took the life of my Mom and one of my younger brothers. Cancer is personal.
Today, tremendous strides are being made in cancer treatment. Patients participating in clinical trials are extremely important to making progress in cancer care. I'm very proud of the contributions my brother Marty gave to moving the needle forward. Immunotherapy is just in it’s infancy. The future looks bright--but it will take all of us contributing dollars for continued investment in research at the Seattle Care Alliance (SCCA) and other cancer centers across our country.
In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that. I want to help in the fight against cancer because cancer takes those we love away from us too soon. While I will not be swimming, I will be volunteering at the Seattle Open Water Swim to assist those who are and help raise as much money as we can to help fight this disease.
Please support this Swim Across America event by sponsoring my involvement as a volunteer -- and make a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure.
Thank-You for your generosity. No financial gift is too small. Together, we can continue to see tremendous strides made in making cancer a treatable disease. Hopefully, in our lifetime.
All my best,
Swim Across America - Seattle, 6917 93rd Avenue SE, Mercer Island, WA 98040.
Check should be made out to Swim Across America but please include a note mentioning my name as the volunteer you are supporting!
