Rich Pennenga - why I'm swimming this year
I'm swimming again this year in honor of my college sweetheart and wife of 39 years, Carol❤ , and my dear sister Ann❤.
Carol Scheibner Pennenga died in October 2021, from endometrial cancer.
Ann Maureen Boyce died in 2008 from lymphoma and leukemia.
I'm also swimming for "life" - celebrating the connection with my son David, a Lehi University college swimmer, my daughter Amy, a high school swimmer, my daughter (in-law) Amanda, also a high school swimmer, and my swimmers-in-training, my three grandsons.
I'm swimming for love of the peaceful quiet that swimming gives me; for the opportunity to pray and meditate; for the means of making my body and mind stronger; for the joy of planning and working with David all year round as 9/9 approached.
I'm swimming in gratitude to God for helping me get through the last 2 years, and to my stalward friends and family who have stood alongside me.
Last year I set a modest fundraising goal & my friends and family blew past it - no small part due to Teri K's enthusiastic support (thanks so much Teri!). Thank you, generous caring friends.
IF YOU WISH and are able, please make a gift, for my reasons or for reasons close to your heart, to support the cancer research community that may help find new treatments for cancer in the future.
The researchers we are funding are the next generation of cancer pioneers; the early stage funding that we give through Swim Across America can lead to breakthroughs that can save lives!
Thank you for reading, cheering, supporting - whatever you choose.
