When I was first invited to join the organization of Swim Across America, I saw it as a great way to combine a personal passion with a worthy cause. The swimming is what attracted me—but the cause soon took center stage. Since we began plans for the first-ever Swim Across America event in the St. Louis area, I have lost several good friends and great people to this insidious disease...and as of 2017, I have experienced it firsthand, having been diagnosed and operated on for melanoma. Yet I have also experienced the benefits of the cutting edge research and medicine that was developed as a result of the backing, amazingly enough, of the very organization I had chosen to support.
—SAA’s successes have resulted in receiving a $3 million charitable donation in 2017
—SAA's ambitious goal is to fund $100 million in the next decade to speed up cures for cancer.
All contributions stay local and benefit the great work at the Siteman Cancer Center, and every dollar raised attracts 3 or more additional dollars in new funding . Please help us Make Waves Against Cancer by making a tax free contribution to support the event. Or better yet, come out and participate or volunteer yourself. Thank you for your generosity and may it someday soon lead to a cancer-free world!
