I am really pleased to be part of SAA- Baltimore again this year. This year I am traveling to Phoenix to participate in a unique event that will support the SAA lab at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, as have past events. Olympian extraordinaire Michael Phelps is hosting this event in honor of his first swim coach, Cathy Bennett.
It's harder than ever for such researchers to raise money, and most of the grants they get are for "sure bets." With the roughly $500,000 that SAA has contributed to the lab per year the last six years, they have been able to pursue some cutting edge research, and make significant gains particularly with cervical and pancreatic cancers. This in particular brought home the lab's work to me, as my father died of pancreatic cancer.
The pool swim in Phoenix should be a great experience. I also participated in the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim in June. This was my 21st year in a row. Unfortunately they had to cut the swim in half this year, to just 2.2 miles, due to stormy conditions. It was still fun, and I am thrilled to be able to participate in these events.
I hope you can support my swim through a donation!
You can make a credit card donation here- see "Donate" button to upper right, or if you prefer send a check- write my name in the memo, and make it payable to Swim Across America Inc. See the instructions below for mailing address
