The Hunters Hill Hawks are Making Waves to Fight Cancer with Swim Across America. Everyone's life has been impacted by cancer which is why we're swimming to help "Make Waves to Fight Cancer" and raise money for cancer research, prevention and treatment.
SAA Denver funds benefit four research projects at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital Colorado. The acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) research project, led by Drs. Amanda Winters, Taizo Nakano, and Craig Forester. The tumor research project, led by Dr. Adam Green. The sepsis biomarker project, led by Dr. Leonora Slatnick. And, new this year, the CAR-T Cell project, led by Dr. Lindsey Murphy and collaborating with Dr. Winters and members of the BMT-Cellular Therapeutics team.

WHAT: This is an opportunity for Hawks Nation to serve others through our sport. In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer, unfortunately, many of them being children, like our own neighbor Garrett Rymer who has been battling cancer with a strong and positive attitude the past 1.5 years. Hunters Hill joined the SAA community so that, together, we can help Garrett and others, and change those statistics. All funds raised stay local and will benefit cancer research & clinical trials at Children's Hospital Colorado.
The Challenge: Just like Garrett and all those challenged in their battles against cancer, we are asking each Hawk swimmer to challenge themselves to swim as many laps as they can during their allotted 1 hour time slot, including our Minnows swimmers who will use kickboards and coach support.
Parents and other neighborhood adults that would like to also join the challenge and help fundraise can swim during adult open swim between 5:30 and 7:30 a.m., or during open pool hours. Just let us know so we can get you your SAA swim cap.
