Join the New York Athletic Club at Travers Island to Fight Cancer with Swim Across America. Everyone's life has been impacted by cancer which is why we're swimming to help "Make Waves to Fight Cancer" and raise money for cancer research, prevention and treatment.


WHAT: Swimmers may swim 1 mile, 1/2 mile or form relay teams. Team participation is encouraged and can consist of friends and family that participate together as a group, often times in honor or in memory of an individual. Teams must have at least 5 swimmers. A team of 5 - 10 swimmers, must raise at least $5,000 - each additional member must raise $500. A swimmer may be part of a team, no matter in which venue they elect to swim.

Shower and changing facilities provided. Light refreshments will be available.

WHEN: July 11, 2021 from 6:30 - 9:30 AM

Check-in starts at the indicated time above, and swimmers are taken on a first come, first served basis. Lap counters are provided, if desired.

HOW TO JOIN: Click the register button in the middle of this page and get your own fundraising page to send out to your friends and family. All swimmers and volunteers must complete the waiver found here and bring to the event check-in. If you are under 18, please bring the waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

FUNDRAISING: We encourage swimmers to each raise at least $500. Participants high school age or younger are encouraged to raise at least $250. Many will raise more but if everyone raises $100, our swim could raise thousands to support cancer research, prevention and treatment.

FUNDRAISING INCENTIVES: Every swimmer who participates will receive a T-shirt and a towel, and any other promotional items!

SPECIAL OLYMPIAN GUEST: Chinyere Pigot attended the University of Connecticut. Chinyere competed at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics at age fifteen, on Suriname's behalf and she competed and was the flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Summer Olympics. She also competed in the 2011 Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Chinyere set UConn records in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles as well as part of several record setting relays. She was named All-BIG EAST Conference all four years.
