On July 12th I will be swimming a mile in memory of my mom, Phyllis Tierney. She lost her fight with small cell lung cancer July 31, 2018, in a moment I’ve relived every day since. She was my person. My person to laugh with, my person to cry with, my person to sing and dance around the house with (or anywhere, honestly), my person who was always there no matter what. She was my walk to work. She was my ‘goodnight’, every night, no matter what state I was in...and if I took too long to call, she’d be threatening to call the cops and send out a search party for me. My life, every day life and future, completely changed the day she died.
So many people have lived these moments; have shared this pain. I’m hoping that one day we put an end to cancer - to another one who’s gone too soon, to another who’s anxiously awaiting a cure while their body quickly deteriorates, to the families falling apart while trying to stay strong.
This is my reason for swimming. This is the reason why I am raising as much money as I can to fight cancer.
With your sponsorship, I’m hoping to exceed my goal of $500. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. I greatly appreciate all of your generosity, and cannot thank you enough for your support.
Credit card donations can be made here. Checks can be sent to Swim Across America, PO Box 217, Larchmont, NY 10538. Checks should be made out to Swim Across America, but please include a note mentioning my name as the swimmer you are supporting!
