We have formed Team OBC again this year to help Swim Across America and the community raise money to fight cancer. The Orienta pool swim will be on Saturday morning, July 20th.

An estimated 40% of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. While this is a sobering reality, each year, millions of Americans are beating cancer through advancements in treatment. SAA is so important because it raises dollars that are invested in early-stage cancer research and clinical trials. 

The National Cancer Institute funding for investigative research and clinical trials has decreased 25% over the past 10 years. The NCI funds less than 15% of grant applicants. The researchers we are funding are in our community and are the next generation of cancer pioneers. Without SAA early-stage funding, they are not able to conduct trials and research that can lead to breakthroughs in detection and treatment that can save lives. Our beneficiaries leverage an SAA grant to gather data so they are in a better position to apply for additional funding from the NCI, bio-tech, pharmaceutical, and other organizations.

We joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change the narrative. We are challenging ourselves by swimming and raising as much money to fight cancer as we can. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention, and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. For every dollar granted by SAA, the beneficiaries have been able to secure three or more dollars in new funding they may not have received otherwise. To date, SAA has granted nearly $100M to fund cancer research and trials.
