Michael Phelps and Swim Across America team up for this charity swim to honor Cathy Bennett who taught Michael how to swim. Cathy is a two-time cancer survivor.

WHAT: Michael Phelps and Swim Across America are teaming up to host this charity swim to honor Cathy Bennett. Cathy taught Michael how to swim, and is a two-time cancer survivor. She continues to teach. Cathy is also the Program Director for Michael Phelps Foundation.

This charity swim is limited to 50 participants. The registration fee is $100 that will go towards the $1,000 required fundraising commitment. Each registered participant may bring one guest (parent, spouse, friend, etc.). The guest is not eligible to swim unless they have registered and met the $1,000 fundraising requirement.

Please know, this is not a swim clinic or swim meet. Open water buoys will be set up in the 50-meter Kino Aquatic Center pool where the charity swim will take place. We will not track or publish times.

Michael Phelps will lead the ceremonial first lap and participate in the charity swim. Our goal is to raise $50,000 that will be granted to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins.

SPECIAL GUESTS: Dr. Bill Nelson chief of the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, three-time Olympian Allison Schmitt (2008, 2012, 2016), 2016 Olympic head coach and Arizona State University head coach Bob Bowman, and members of the ASU swim team are anticipated to attend the charity swim as we celebrate Cathy.

FUNDRAISING INCENTIVES: All participants will receive a Swim Across America and Michael Phelps Foundation swag bag with a Swim Across America swim cap, t-shirt and towel.

  • The Top 5 individuals who raise the most amount of donations for the charity swim will receive two (2) suite tickets to the Thursday, Aug. 29th Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game. The game time is 6:40pm and Michael is throwing out the first pitch. During the game, the Top 5 will have a special in-game Q&A with Michael.

WHEN: The charity swim is August 28, 2019 from 5 to 7pm.

WHERE: Kino Aquatic Center, 848 N. Horne, Mesa, AZ 85203

TIMELINE: The schedule is subject to updates.
