The Personal Challenge 2020 event starts immediately and runs all summer. Our “socially-distanced" pick-up for the 2020 commemorative T-shirt, prizes, and special treat is currently scheduled for early August.
Established in 2008, the SAA - Fairfield County swim has donated $4.165 million over 13 years to Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy. 100% of funds contributed by Swim Across America to ACGT go directly to research.
Even in these uncertain times, we are still making waves to fight cancer. As we navigate COVID-19, SAA has created a special webpage with helpful information and ways all across our organization that we continue to support our mission.
WHAT: This year the SAA-FC Personal Challenge 2020 replaces our open water swim. All can participate in this ‘any-activity, fund-raising challenge’ as we “make virtual waves to fight cancer.” Here are some ideas for your 2020 Personal Challenge:
WHERE: Anywhere you want, with your team, family or individually.
HOW: Just two easy steps:
*Anyone already registered as a volunteer or swimmer will be automatically changed to the Personal Challenge 2020. NO NEED to reregister.
1. Register either individually or under your Team name.
2. For this year, instead of our usual registration fee, we ask that you make a small $25 personal donation. You will receive a commemorative 2020 SAA T-Shirt to be picked up at a date in early August, information to follow.
That’s it! Now set up your fundraising profile page and fundraise what you can, if you can. There are no fundraising minimums this year.
Personally challenge yourself and others to get out there and swim, kayak, walk, run, bike, golf, play tennis—any activity you want.
Check back here frequently as we post updates about our August celebration.
You can find some new and inspiring fundraising messages and social media shareables crafted for 2020 and your participation in the personal challenge here.
All 2020 SAA - Fairfield County participants will receive the 2020 commemorative shirt as a thank you for their support and commitment to Swim Across America. This shirt features the slogan "The Mission Doesn't Stop" on the front - a reference to 34 years and counting of impact we've had 'Making Waves To Fight Cancer' with all the SAA cities on back. The tri-blend shirt comes in blue to recognize our frontline heroes in hospitals and research centers in this unprecedented year.
To join the Personal Challenge 2020, there is a small personal DONATION of $25 to get you started. You can still choose to register as an individual or as a part of a fundraising team/family. Teams can be an inspirational way to honor a loved one and motivate your family and friends to register with you! And while we will encourage you to fundraise, there is NO Fundraising Minimum to participate.
Already registered for SAA - Fairfield County? Great! No need to change your registration. You are already eligible to participate in the activity tracking challenge.
Note, Online Fundraising Pages on the SAA website are still available, and you can still use Facebook and other Social Media platforms to solicit additional donations. Proceeds from the challenge will support cancer research at ACGT.
