Kate Ziegler

Kate Ziegler began her domination of the distance freestyle events in high school where she won numerous Virginia state titles and earned Washington Post All-Met honors four times. In 2005, Ziegler earned USA Swimming's Female Performance of the Year award.  In 2007, Kate shattered the longest standing swimming and world record set by Janet Evans almost twenty years earlier in the 1500m Freestyle. Also the World Record holder in the 800m and 1500m short course events, Kate has developed into a dominant force for the US Team in both distance events. Although the 1500m Freestyle is not an Olympic event, Kate qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 800m and 400m Freestyle events. Kate competed in the 2008 games at the age of twenty and still has a long career ahead of her as she continues her swimming career at George Mason University.
