Kirk Stackle
Kirk
grew up in San Diego, where he enjoyed friends, family, the beach and
swimming. After excelling in age group swimming he took a chance and
headed to Austin, Texas to swim for Eddie Reece and Kris Kubik at the
University of Texas. Under the program, Kirk enjoyed great success
winning 3 team and 3 individual national championships and a berth on
the 1988 Olympic team in the 200 breast stroke. In 1990, Kirk held his
highest rankings of 2 in the world in the 200 breaststroke and 3 in the
world in the 100 breaststroke after an outstanding Goodwill Games
showing. Also while at the University of Texas he earned a degree in
Psychology with a minor in Sociology, and met his wife of 17 years,
Alecha Stackle.
He now enjoys time with his daughter, Avery,
who is an avid swimmer and soccer player. Plus, he has fun participating
in the Nitro masters swimming program, and battling it out with Roque
Santos at Masters Nationals. He is looking forward to working with
young swimmers at Nitro Swimming this year, and supporting incredible
causes that focus on the eradication of cancer in our lifetime -
including Swim Across America.
