Swim Across America is proud to announce that the proceeds from our
Rhode Island Swim will benefit Women and Infants Hospital in Providence,
RI.
The Program in Women’s Oncology at Women & Infants Hospital of
Rhode Island, the largest and most diverse oncology service for women in
the Northeast, was launched in 1989 to provide a broad spectrum of care
for gynecological and breast cancers. It has evolved into a
world-renowned, multi-disciplinary facility where clinicians uncover key
answers to the questions of cancer, and focus on the needs of the
patients and families.
The Program – a full member of the National Cancer Institute’s
Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), and affiliated by the American College
of Surgeons as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program – leads the nation in
innovative approaches to the treatment and management of women with
cancer. Its physicians spearhead ground-breaking research in basic
science, translational and clinical research. The Center for Biomarkers
and Emerging Technology recently introduced to clinical practice novel
biomarkers for the risk assessment and management of patients with
ovarian and endometrial cancer.
The Program in Women’s Oncology is dedicated to education in women’s
cancers and maintains a board-approved Fellowship in Gynecologic
Oncology and a Society of Surgical Oncology approved fellowship in
breast cancer, training a total of 5 fellows each year. |
