Nearly 1 out of 3 people in the US are diagnosed with cancer, but for me it came down to just one.
May 2019, my Dad went to the hospital complaining of persistent and severe headaches, but he never anticipated what was to come next. We learned he had a significant mass, in fact, within a week of that hospital visit, he was diagnosed with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Fast forward ten months, he had multiple surgeries, extensive rehabilitation, chemotherapy, radiation, and even immunotherapy. In spite of it all, my dad not only maintained his relentless positive attitude, but also his absurd sense of humor! Not the least bit out of character, he also managed to charm just about ever doctor, nurse, and therapist that had the pleasure of treating him!
Despite our team of amazing doctors and an aggressive treatment plan, my father passed away only a year after finding the tumor. This is why I’m challenging myself to swim in the Long Island Sound Open Water Swim in memory of my Dad!
Unfortunately, cancer has and will touch the lives of many people and my goal is to raise as much money as I can to fight it. Please support me by sponsoring my swim and donating a gift. ANY and ALL donations are a step in the right direction! The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment, and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity and I pray it leads to a cancer-free world!
You can make a credit card donation here, or you may send a check, payable to Swim Across America, to PO Box 217, Larchmont, NY 10538.
Checks should be made out to Swim Across America, but please include a note mentioning my name, Chiara Palombi, as the swimmer you are supporting!
